Riyadh Metro and Jeddah Metro Project

Riyadh Metro and Jeddah Metro subject

It is planned that the Saudi capital will host a private metro with the opening of the first implementation phase in 2020. The project is estimated to be the largest urban transportation project in the world with six lines covering an area of 176 thousand kilometers and 85 metro train stations in the city. Once the project is completed, this metro network will be able to transport 400,000 passengers daily with a train length of up to 36 metres, and capable of transporting passengers in three seats: first class seats, family seats, and a single seat. The metro network will also include a parallel bus network. In a related context, there is also a special project for the city of Jeddah that is expected to be completed by 2025, to include three lines currently under development. The first phase of the project connects King Abdulaziz Airport with Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, Al-Khuzam and Al-Ruwais. The Jeddah Metro project was initially scheduled to be completed by 2020, but the completion of the project will be delayed by another five years due to the delay in launching the Jeddah Bus Network project.
