Western Region – Medina
The project aims to increase the capacity of the Prophet’s Mosque by providing prayer places for 290,000 worshipers (50,000 inside the building and 240,000 in the courtyards). The project is summed up with the construction of the front part and the infrastructure for the back part of the eastern wing of the expansion, along with the rehabilitation of the surrounding squares, and includes the following elements:
• Completing the eastern wing of the expansion of the Prophet’s Mosque.
• Connecting the new expansion buildings to the existing mosque building through bridges at the levels of the first floor and the roof floor of the existing building.
• Create new squares surrounding the proposed expansion, provided that these new squares are an extension of the existing squares.
• Providing all sources of additional services, such as electrical power and cooling water, as well as electromechanical systems to operate the areas added to the mosque building and the new squares.
